Local personal trainer co-founds women’s fitness boot camp

March 4, 2010

By Tim Pfarr

Brian Wehner has helped form a fitness boot camp exclusively for women that began March 1. Classes are one hour long and begin at 5:30 and 9:30 a.m. at Lewis Creek Park in Bellevue and Carol Edwards Park in Woodinville.Wehner, of Renton, tentatively plans to lead the workouts at Lewis Creek Park, while his associate Becky Thompson will lead workouts at Carol Edwards Park. Amy Frank-Lewallen co-owns the company, and Wehner said she will likely help him instruct workouts at Lewis Creek Park.

Women can choose a three-, four- or five-day-per-week package. Classes run through the end of the month, and another round of the courses starts at the beginning of April.

My Revolution Boot Camp will also offer a free, one-session trial to women interested in joining.

Wehner said he founded the camp because he has seen many women fall in and out of workout routines at gyms without much consistency. He said the boot camp-style workout will not only replace the monotony of the gym, but will facilitate exercise in a group setting.

“I think the camaraderie will be great,” Wehner said.

Each class will focus on a different muscle group, and exercises will include walking, running, mat Pilates, jumping rope, stair climbing and weight exercises.

Women who participate should bring water, a pair of five- or 10-pound dumbbells, a mat, a jump rope, running shoes and appropriate attire for outdoors. Some may wish to bring a towel as well.

The first day of the class will feature initial fitness assessments to establish a baseline for each person, so improvement can be tracked.

Women who participate can also sign up to receive Vitabot nutritional support, a Web-based program that helps users plan their meals. It also analyzes users’ diets and gives grades to the amount of nutrients users receive in their diets.

“You literally get a GPA,” Wehner said.

Wehner is a personal trainer certified by the American Council on Exercise, as well as the National Strength and Condition Association. He has also been certified by ACE for group instruction, and he has worked in the fitness industry for 12 years.

Frank-Lewallen is a health fitness instructor certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, a personal trainer certified by the American Council on Exercise, and a USAT Level 1 certified triathlon coach. She has a bachelor’s degree in sports science from the University of Idaho; she has worked in the fitness industry for 15 years.
